Mince pies are my favourite sweet treats around Christmas. You just can't go wrong! Today's I've got a recipe for you, which is unbelievably easy and when you've made them yourself they're just so much nicer!
You will need...
- 1 mixing bowl
- 225g diced butter
- 350g plain flour
- 3 tbsp of water
- Rolling pin
- 1 large circular cutter
- 1 jar of mince meat
- 1 star cutter
- Muffin/cupcake baking tray
- 1 egg
Instructions
- Sift your flour into the mixing bowl, then chuck in the butter.
- Rub the butter and the flour, lifting your fingers up to the top of the bowl, until you get a breadcrumb texture.
- Add 1 tbsp of water and start to push together your mixture together into a ball.
- Slowly add the rest of the water until the mixture has formed a ball.
- Let the mixture sit for a while, whilst you grease the tin.
- Separate the mixture into 2 thirds and 1 third. The bigger section will be for the bases and the smaller one will be for the lids.
- Using the rolling pin, roll out the larger ball until it is the thickness of a pound coin, then cut out the bases with the ciruclar cutter, placing them in the tray like muffin cases.
- One you've used all of the mixture from the larger ball, use a tablespoon to spoon the mincemeat into each case. Use as little or as much as you want!
- Roll out the smaller ball to a similar thickness and then cut out the stars.
- Place the stars on top of the mincemeat like lids.
- Before you place them in the oven, mix the egg in a jug and brush it over the tops of the mince pies.
- Place in the oven for 20 minutes or until they are golden brown.
Enjoy!
