End Of The F***ing World

End of The F***ing World is a 8 part dark-comedy series, which has recently been added to Netflix and has had the whole world talking. This is not your average girl-meets-boy love story, and that's why I absolutely loved it.

End of The F***ing World is based around a confused, teenage pair, Alyssa (Jessica Barden), and James (Alex Lawther) who run away from their parents in search of escape, and find themselves on a road trip around Britain. Alyssa, a loud and assertive character, is the contrast to the socially awkward James, who believes he is a psychopath. But they do say opposites attract.

Ever since he was a young boy, James has been obsessed with murder; killing animals and recently deciding it's time to move on and kill a human. He's convinced that Alyssa would be a perfect first victim and pretends to fall in love with her in order to get her closer and gain her trust.

Watching the first episode, I found the show very bizarre. There is minimal contact with supporting characters and the humour is dark yet witty, but you can't resist sticking with it. It's a breath of fresh air for British television, and television in general, moving away from the general feel of young adult shows nowadays such as Riverdale and Pretty Little Liars. I've got my friends watching it too and they found it equally as fascinating.

The show is very fast paced and each episode is the perfect length for binge watching, which I did in Berlin! And trust me, you will be left wanting more.

5 Christmas Films You Need To Watch

Working in retail means that I'm not getting much downtime leading up to Christmas, so when I do get the chance to chill out, there's nothing nicer than having a cosy afternoon eating celebrations and watching Christmas films. Today I'm going to share with you my top 5 Christmas films that I completely recommend and will never get old.

1. Love Actually
If you don't watch this at least twice leading up to Christmas you have no heart. It's such a British classic and feel good film, and now it's been uploaded to Netflix so you have absolutely no excuses.

2. The Grinch
Admittedly we never used to watch the Grinch a lot in the Hendry household, but in the last couple of years it's been a must-have for me and Harry. I love his little dog and every time I watch it I still can't believe that little Cindy Lou is Taylor Momsen.

3. Miracle on 34th Street
I've had this sitting in my Netflix saved list for weeks now, but we only got round to watching it the other day and it's become one of my favourite Christmas films. It's a complete classic, set in New York City (is there really anything more Christmassy?) and you will fall in love with Kris Kringle, who's played by Richard Attenborough.

4. Home Alone (1 and 2)
I don't really have to say anything about these films, because if you haven't seen them you've obviously been living under a rock. I know there's a third one but is it really Home Alone without Kevin? Give yourself the afternoon and watch them back to back, and then I promise you will truly be in the Christmas mood.

5. Fred Clause
I wouldn't call it a classic but it is such a good film. I don't think this film is given the recognition it deserves.

6. Elf
Everyone loves a bit of Buddy the Elf. I'm actually watching it as I type this. I hadn't actually watched this until 2 or 3 years ago, but it's definitely a favourite and a must to watch. It's also set in New York so what's not to love.

7. Deck The Halls
This has been one of my favourites for years and even though the rivalry between Steve and Danny really annoys me, and it's so predictable, I still watch it year after year.

So these are my favourite Christmas films, and I hope that they give you some ideas if you're finding yourself a little undecided about what to watch this weekend!

7 Things You Need to Watch On Netflix This Autumn

Over the last couple of days I've been getting major Autumnal vibes. The clocks have gone back, it's got noticeably colder, and Costa's Christmas hot chocolates come out in 2 days! The heating is currently on and yesterday I walked home from uni in the dark; it's a little saddening but I'm all for the cosy nights in.

If, like me, you find yourself wrapped up in your teddy bear blanket (Dunelm I'm looking at you) with a nice big mug of hot chocolate - with added marshmallows might i add, then here is a list of my favourite films and series that you need to watch.

Gilmore Girls
I feel like whatever you read about the best things to watch on Netflix, Gilmore Girls is always going to be on the list. From the cute little town of Stars Hollow, to Lorelai's obsession with snow, this show screams Fall. In between my weekly instalments of the Kardashians and Riverdale, and watching Stranger Things 2, I've been re-watching this from the start, because Lorelai and Rory become almost like your best friends. It's just like a big autumnal hug. If you have no idea what I am talking about, Gilmore Girls, in a nutshell, is about the life of single mum Lorelai and her daughter Rory who are more best friends than mother-daughter. Through the 7 seasons, you see Rory grow up into an adult, dealing with private school, college and relationships, with Lorelai supporting and adapting to the different situations in which they both face. If you love witty humour and a good binge this is definitely the show for you.

Gilmore Girls - A Year In The Life
If you're now watching the original Gilmore Girls series' then you're probably addicted and you will probably be thirsty for more when you come to the finale in series 7. Good news, Netflix made a sequel. Gilmore Girls - A Year In The Life is a 4-part series, set 9 years later from the original. The four parts cover each season, starting with 'Winter'. Each episode is about 90 minutes long, so still binge-worthy, and the finale is 100% a cliffhanger. Just you wait.

Clueless
I actually only watched Clueless about a month ago. Omg. I know, I'm ashamed of myself too. If you like Mean Girls and you like a classic 90's film, you are going to love this. Cher, is a rich, 'daddy's little girl', Beverley Hills kid who "gives more than she bargains for when she gives a fashion-challenged student a makeover" (Netflix). Don't like the sound of it? AS IF.

Two Night Stand
This is another film I watched not that long ago and I'm not obsessed with. I'd say that this film is more of a cult/independent rom-com, and the narrative is simple, but very good if you're looking for an unlikely love story. It stars Miles Teller of Divergent and Analeigh Tipton, who I'd never seen before but was apparently in Lucy and Warm Bodies, so definitely two up and coming actors. If only it snowed like that in the UK...

What's Your Number?
In the way that Two Night Stand is a very unlikely love story and maybe not such a mainstream film, What's Your Number? is very similar. In the highly likely chance that you've watched Friends and haven't been living under a rock, you will definitely know Anna Faris - she was the biological mother of Monica and Chandler's twins and has recently split up with Chris Pratt. This film is funny, an easy watch, and another film you will be telling all of your friends to watch.

Jane The Virgin
Despite having more Summery vibes, Jane The Virgin is definitely a series you can binge and obsess over, and have a giggle at. A modern Ugly Betty, Jane is accidentally inseminated with the doctor's brother's sperm. Very dramatic, very unrealistic, but SO GOOD.

Eddie The Eagle
The last of my cosy-watched, and an unlikely choice, but it's so bad it's good. Taron Egerton is amazing in this true story about Eddie Edwards who, in 1988, became Britain's first ski-jumper since 1929. It's one of those feel good films that you can sit and have a cup of tea or a hot chocolate with, because it's British so it's kind of relatable.

There are so many more things I could list, but we'd be here all day! When it comes to Netflix, there is no time like the present! *she says as she looks at the long to-do list of uni work*

What are your favourite things to watch this time of year?

First Thoughts On Girlboss

I'm late on the bandwagon again. I know. But I've been meaning to watch Netflix's Girlboss ever since it was released, but obviously I had to finish Gilmore Girls first 😉

I've only watched the first episode so far, but I thought I'd write down a few first thoughts...

The episode starts with Sophia (played by Britt Robertson) running out of gas and having to push her car up one of San Fransisco's infamous hills. I instantly thought "that would definitely be me". I don't think I'd even reach halfway with my little Corsa's 15 year old engine!

Throughout the episode you see Sophia meeting her friend, getting fired from her job, arguing with her dad, and then getting evicted from her flat. I liked Sophia's character at first. I liked her personality and her dress sense but then she started to annoy me. I have no idea why. I don't know whether it's Britt Robertson's acting style because, honestly, I've never really got in to any of the films she's starred in, or just because Sophia didn't really appreciate anything and kind of brought everything that happened upon herself.

The episodes are only half an hour long, which I guess makes you more likely to concentrate on it before you start losing focus, but it also means that you'll get through the series v. quickly. I don't like knowing that a series is going to finish quickly. The fear of the unknown, that there isn't going to be anything as good to watch once it's finished.

You could pretty much summarise those 30 minutes by saying that sometimes it doesn't matter if you're not 100% tuned in to adulthood or that you're not quite sure what you want to do with your life, but there's always a light at the end of the tunnel. Even if that light does come from your computer screen!
