End Of The F***ing World

End of The F***ing World is a 8 part dark-comedy series, which has recently been added to Netflix and has had the whole world talking. This is not your average girl-meets-boy love story, and that's why I absolutely loved it.

End of The F***ing World is based around a confused, teenage pair, Alyssa (Jessica Barden), and James (Alex Lawther) who run away from their parents in search of escape, and find themselves on a road trip around Britain. Alyssa, a loud and assertive character, is the contrast to the socially awkward James, who believes he is a psychopath. But they do say opposites attract.

Ever since he was a young boy, James has been obsessed with murder; killing animals and recently deciding it's time to move on and kill a human. He's convinced that Alyssa would be a perfect first victim and pretends to fall in love with her in order to get her closer and gain her trust.

Watching the first episode, I found the show very bizarre. There is minimal contact with supporting characters and the humour is dark yet witty, but you can't resist sticking with it. It's a breath of fresh air for British television, and television in general, moving away from the general feel of young adult shows nowadays such as Riverdale and Pretty Little Liars. I've got my friends watching it too and they found it equally as fascinating.

The show is very fast paced and each episode is the perfect length for binge watching, which I did in Berlin! And trust me, you will be left wanting more.

The Generator

Hello, it's been a while.

This past week I've been back at uni, trying to settle back in to a routine, and chasing up maintenance to come and finish my room for what feels like every five minutes (that's a story for another time). But, whilst all of this has been going on, I went to London on an FCP night for a couple of days, and we stayed at The Generator in Kings Cross.

When I first think of the word 'hostel', I instantly think some cheap, run down building, with dated wallpaper and rusty bunk beds. With The Generator that is not the case. Being FCP students we obviously have to do style on a budget, which is totally what The Generator is. It's decor is very artistic and visually attractive, with bright colours, different materials, funky typography and lots of illustration.

The atmosphere is brilliant, because it's full of like minded people who want to stay somewhere nice, but can't necessarily pay mega bucks. People who are creatively minded. People who aren't settling down for a while.

However, being a hostel there are some down sides to the small price tag. For example, you do still get bunk beds, which isn't a problem in itself, but the mattresses aren't particularly comfy to say the least. And breakfast is nothing to write home about. Nevertheless, I had a full nights sleep and I was fed, which you can't really complain about considering we paid less than £30 for the night.

The Generator is a chain of hostels, so they also have hostels in most major European cities, including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome and Stockholm. It looks like there is going to be on in Miami very soon!

KKW X Kylie Cosmetics Review

About a month ago now, Kylie Jenner revealed her collaboration with Kim Kardashian, 'KKW by Kylie Cosmetics'. When they were first revealed I wasn't really that bothered about it; I'd become less interested in the brand, and the novelty had worn off. But after seeing image after image of the swatches and the packaging, I kind of started to fall in love with the collab. That's the power of social media promotion I suppose.

I actually read an article that was linked to Business of Fashion where the interviewer asked Kylie how social media has played in to her marketing strategy and she replied by saying that she's never paid for advertising, it all comes down to Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter.

Anyway, the launch date arrived. It was a few days before my birthday and I suddenly found myself on the website, then in the queue, and then at the checkout. I wasn't expecting to get hold of them, but I don't think they sold out as quickly as other launches that she's done.

The packaging is beautiful. It's quite minimal, but the material is a lot stronger than the boxes you get with the standard lip kits and having the sleeve gives it more of a precious feeling.

I haven't managed to try out the actual lipsticks yet because my lips have been so cracked, but when I swatched them on my arm, the formula seemed really smooth, and when I spread it out a bit it dried really quickly but stayed looking consistent. In terms of the shades, I love them all because I am a nude girl, I don't really stray out of my comfort zone when it comes to make up. But there are two shades that I honestly can't tell the difference between and you can probably see that on the last photo (the two in the middle). I think 'Kiki' is meant to be a bit more pink than 'Kim', but hopefully the difference will show up better when I put them on my lips!

Although it did cost an arm and a leg, now I've actually got the set I don't regret buying them. Like most products, it does have it's flaws, such as the similarity in the shades 'Kim' and 'Kiki', however you can't fault the actual formula and you can tell that a lot of thought has gone in to the process of creating it.

Moschino // Candy Crush

Earlier this week amongst the lead up to the biggest, aesthetically focused music festivals out there -  Coachella - it was announced that Moschino and Candy Crush would be launching a collection at the annual music festival. The capsule collection consists of a swimsuit, a pair of swimming trunks, a backpack and also an iPhone cover. 

“We’ve got swimsuits, because, everyone’s going to be in a pool at one point or another at Coachella, or it’s going to be so hot you wish you were in a pool.” - Jeremy Scott

This is so completely Jeremy Scott that it's almost predictable. Since his very first collection for the brand in 2013, the overall aesthetic has been incredibly in tune with pop/trash culture. For example, he's taken inspiration from the likes of McDonalds, Snickers and Spongebob Squarepants, dressed stars such as Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus, and collaborated with Barbie, Cartoon Network and Nintendo. This latest collab is wacky and an unconventional approach to your typical fashion-brand-X-collaborating-with-fashion-brand-Y, however, should we really be that amazed?

This makes me want to throw up in my mouth a little bit...

Although the mobile app couldn't be more spot on for the brand, I'm personally not that big a fan. It's crossed the line just that little bit too much. It's a little bit too naff. And definitely not worth the £106 - £403 price tags. Although the game still seems to be growing strong, and currently celebrating it's 5th birthday, I definitely stopped playing a long time ago. It's definitely not as relevant as it used to be. Saying this, would the collab have been a bit too sickly sweet when it was riding in the number 1 spot in the App Store? Or is this just an attempt to make it relevant again?

Who knows. I'm sure there are thousands of people who will be loving this one; I'm just not giving it the heart-eyed emoji.

Hidden Figures Review

On Saturday night, me and Harry went to see Hidden Figures at the Broadway in Nottingham. I've been wanting to see it for ages but had never got round to it, so having Harry up for the weekend seemed like the perfect time.

Hidden Figures is based on a true story about three black women, Katherine Johnson (Taraji P Henderson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monae), all mathematicians who worked for NASA during some of the most vital years in the US space program. During the film, you see how each of them work their arses off to get where they want to be, despite racial segregation and sexism, and how they experience life outside of work in a world of white hegemony.

I thought this film was really refreshing. Especially as we've been hearing a lot more of the Black Lives Matter campaign in the last couple of years. Taraji P. Henderson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae play their roles with such emotion and integrity, they really have portrayed the honesty and feelings within the story. You begin to understand how these women must have felt when they were constantly being told to leave public places because the whites "didn't want any trouble" and having to walk half a mile to go to the coloured bathroom. Honestly, you see "coloured" this, "coloured" that so many times during the film you almost have to laugh, it seems so unrealistic, yet that's how it was. It's shocking.

It also makes you realise that you can achieve anything. I got this feeling when I watched Eddie the Eagle too the other day. It sounds so cliche, I know, but these ladies pushed and pushed to achieve more than they ever thought they could. After Mary Jackson was told that she couldn't apply for an Engineering job at NASA, because she didn't have the qualifications, she went to court and persuaded the judge to let her attend an all-white school, even if it was just night school. Katherine Johnson was told that she was no longer needed because of a new IBM computer system, which could work 100 times faster than any human brain could, yet they eventually realised they needed her when the IBM was giving out incorrect co-ordinates for John Glenn's launch (the first American to orbit the Earth). She then went on to help calculate the trajectory for the Apollo 11 flight to the moon in 1969.

If you haven't seen this film already then I really recommend that you should. Not only is it motivational and educational, but it's also a really good watch in general!

Review - Rituals Sunrise Shower Foam. xo

A few weeks ago I mentioned in my pamper evening post that I've been using the Rituals Sunrise shower foam. I've now got an empty bottle of it and going to review it for you gorgeous readers today.

I was given the bottle in a Glossybox around Christmas time last year and because I'd never heard of Rituals before I was quite looking forward to using it. Eventually I got round to it and it's lasted me for about a month which I guess is pretty standard for a shower gel/foam/cream/whatever.

Like most products I review I've absolutely loved using it. It's different from every other shower gel I can remember using. I think what I most love about it is the fact that it comes out as a gel and turns into a foam. I think this is such a good idea because you only can see how much you're using and then it turns into a larger amount of foam anyway. I also like the fact that foam is like loads of bubbles and I LOVE BUBBLLLEESSSS!!! They're so... bubbly!? The second thing I love about this product is the smell. It's got an orange smell and I really like that because it smells really summery and puts me in a better mood. Lets be honest, no one wants to smell of rain. It just dampens the mood.

Overall I would rate this product ***** - 5 stars. I think this is one of the best products I've used and I love the whole gel to foam idea!
